Hydroxyl radicals are of interest in atmospheric processes due to their oxidative ability. Determine the partition function for the vibrational degree of freedom for OH (V=3735Cm^-1) and calculate the probability of occupying the first excited vibrational level at 260K. Would you expect the probability for occupying the first-excited vibrational level for OD (v=2721cm^-1) to be greater or less than for OH?
