Electromagnetic waves are radiating (transporting) in the space in the form of electric and magnetic fields. Explain the principles of the radiation of these waves in the free space and how this is used in radio frequency communication systems. Support your answer with illustration of the radiated electromagnetic wave in the free space.

Explain the electromagnetic spectrum in terms of frequency and wavelength

Q1:Electromagnetic spectrum is divided into different regions depending on their frequency and application. Explain the relationship between the frequency and wavelength of the electromagnetic waves, illustrating this with the presentation of the electromagnetic spectrum for the radio frequencies between very low frequency (VLF) and the Extra High Frequency (EHF) bands.

Q2: For each of the frequency bands between VLF and EHF, calculate the wavelength of the electromagnetic wave and state an application for each.

Discuss the structure and nature of the ionosphere with reference to daily, seasonal and long-term changes

Explain the modes of propagation of radio waves of different frequencies

Q1: Describe the ionosphere layers and discuss their influence on radio wave propagation during both the day and at night.

Q2: Discuss how are the modes of electromagnetic wave propagation between a transmitter and a receiver influenced by the ionosphere layers.Illustrate in a diagram the following dependent variables of the high frequency (HF) path:

- Frequency
- Range of path
- Antenna elevation angle

Discuss how radio transmitter operations are regulated, and explain the legal requirements for transmitters to operate in the UK.Include frequency of operation and power of transmitted waves in your discussion.
