How do we know the oxidation of camphor leads to a different product if they look/smell the same in the end as it did in the beginning?

Also, what would the yield calculations be for the oxidation of camphor if we used the following info:
the theoretial yield for isoborneol should be xmmil * (1 mol/1000 mmil)*(159.3/1 mol) = 1.929 g m=(delta T)/(Kf) started with 3.87 g of isoborneol the mass of our solid was .033g the melting point of our sublimed product is 141 degrees C
