How would you characterize the persona that Douglass creates in his autobiography? The persona that Rousseau creates in Confessions? Explain with specific evidence from The Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass and the first book of Confessions. The primary purpose of Douglass' autobiography was to hasten the end of slavery. Rousseau had two goals, first creating a science of human nature and the second being self-justification for the moral wrongs he had committed in his life and which Voltaire and others had made public. How does the persona of each autobiography serve the author's purpose(s)?
