Monetary and Fiscal Policy

On March 24, 2020, President Duterte signed the Republic Act 11469, otherwise known as "Bayanihan to Heal as One Act." The provision of the said act includes the following:

  • Ensure the availability of credit to productive sectors of society, such as lowering lending rates of interest and reserve requirements of lending institutions.
  • Provide emergency subsidy ranging from P5,000 to P8,000 to around 18 million low-income households for two (2) months.
  • On the other hand, on March 19, the Monetary Board of BSP slashed the interest rates by 50% basis points or 0.5% to lower the cost of borrowings to encourage more business activities that could soften the impact of the coronavirus.
