Module 7 Homework Assignment
Directions: Throughout this course, you will be working on your senior capstone project. You will submit a component for this project at the end of each module.
There are two parts to this Homework Assignment. For the first part, you will be asked to analyze a case and the data samples that accompany the cases. For the second part, you will be explaining how you would plan to analyze the data for your own research proposal.
PART I:
Read the three parts of the case on cereal. A consumer action group has accused Oxford Cereals of shorting the weights on their cereals.
1. For the first reading (CCACC-Consumers Concerned About Cereal Cheaters), analyze the data provided by the CCACC. What information did the consumer group provide? Was it scientifically collected? You should consider whether the scales were all weighted the same, who the parties were who weighed the cereal, and whether or not they placed the bags on the same scales in the same manner. Is the data reliable? Would you believe this group if they made the accusation and you did not know the data? Do you believe them according to the data they have collected?
2. For the second reading (More on Cereal Cheaters), again analyze the data collected by the CCACC. They are now accusing Plant #2 of shorting the packaging. Was the test scientifically conducted? What concerns do you have about the consumer group's data collection and analysis? Did you get the same results that they did? What are your thoughts about the cereal company?
3. For the third reading (Oxford Cereals Win Consumers' Trust in Independent Test), analyze the data collected by Oxford. What did you think about their data collection method? Do you believe the results that were collected? Analyze the data yourself and explain whether you think the report is correct. Is using the average a good method for determining the weights in cereal boxes?
4. Create a chart or graph showing the information provided by the cereal company.
5. After analyzing all the data, make recommendations to both the consumer agency and the cereal company.
PART II:
For this section of your research paper:
1. Explain the data that you plan to collect.
2. Explain the data analysis methods that you will use after you collect the data.
3. Explain the methods that you will use to display the data.
