Assignment: Equality and Justice
Purpose: The purpose of this assignment is to have you practice the skills necessary in:
1. Identify and apply a variety of epistemological, metaphysical and ethical theory
2. Evaluate and differentiate between an epistemological, a metaphysical and an ethical question
3. Understand and apply the criteria of correct philosophical reasoning
4. Present a solution to a philosophical problem
But, in a round-about way, each of the outcomes is present. And with this, we will have hit on all of the outcomes for this class, in one way or another.
Task: In the text as well as in the module pages, there are explanations of various kinds of equality, arguments for that kind of equality, and issues with implementing that kind of equality. For example, there was equality of the distribution of money, the utilitarian reasoning for this, and the impracticality issue with it. Your task is to:
(A) Explain the kind of equality you wish to discuss (money, opportunity, or political)
(B) Explain, in your own words, the reasons why someone might want this kind of equality/to think that it is moral.
(C) Explain, in your own words/with your own examples, the issues with that kind of equality.
(D) Explain what you think about the reply (whether it's good or bad) and why.
