Lesson To Be Learned

Stanley was a new member of Ben Franklyn's team and wanted to be included as one of the team members that had the privilege to use the backdoor. Stanley learned that you had to be on Franklyn's list to use the backdoor. Although Stanley did not agree with the idea, he was motivated to make it on the list. After learning that Franklyn worked his way up to the position that he is in now, it motivated Stanley even more. Franklyn's leadership style encourages his team to work hard and dedicate themselves to their job.

Theory

The autocratic model in organizational behavior creates a business environment where the manager is viewed as the absolute decision-maker and receives minimum conflict among the employees (Kinicki, 2021). The model requires that the leader has more power and control over the resources in the work environment to help him use them to motivate hardworking employees and punish those that fail to align with organizational goals. Franklyn's ability to control those who use the back door and other privileges in the company has enabled him to dictate the actions of the employees.

The autocratic model focuses more on employee motivation, power, and the need for inclusion in the workplace environment. Employees require motivation, and Franklyn's motivation strategy promotes extrinsic motivation, where he adds monetary compensation to the best-performing employees and includes them in his list of employees with additional privileges such as access through the back door (Kinicki, 2021). Franklyn uses his power to withhold and issue certain benefits to the best-performing employees. He also understands the employee's inclusion needs, which creates a basis for effective leadership strategies.

Personal Experience

Shaohua

I once worked in an organization where the owner would categorize his employees according to their performance and their loyalty. The most loyal employees received additional bonuses on their salaries and had private offices while other employees worked in an open office layout. As a new employee, I realized that I had minimum benefits, and this made me dissatisfied. In the long run, I realized that the owner gave all employees equal chances to prove their loyalty. I worked hard, proved my worth, and I was given my own personal office space among other benefits. The autocratic model enhances extrinsic motivation and loyalty among employees. It also promotes employee inclusion in the work environment.

Maria

My personal experience came from a company that I previously worked at. The manager at this company led by example but she would only reward employees if they were as dedicated as she was. If she noticed an employee that was as dedicated as she was, she would invite them to dinner with the owners. This was an opportunity to give the employee a chance to build relationships with the owners and which always led to promotions and growth within the company. It took me 2 years to have the opportunity to go to one of the dinners. Growth and promotion were always my biggest motivators and because of that, I made sure to be a model employee for several years.
