Assessment topic: Significance of Enterprise Systems Architecture and Enterprise Systems in Business Innovations
Task details:

It enables businesses to make wise decisions and optimize their technology investments by providing a holistic view of the organisation. To ensure long-term success and competitive advantage in today's rapidly evolving business setting. It helps in the successful deployment of a company's business strategy through analysis, design and planning. Business can get the best out of their digital transformation efforts and bridge the gap between IT and business and thereby increase revenue by using EA to compose new business models that drive better revenue through innovation and successful execution.

This assessment contributes to learning outcomes c and d.
Assessment topic: Enterprise Systems and Architecture (ESA) design project
Task details:
Students will form groups with a maximum of three members in a group. The student groups are required
to identify the core processes and design a suitable "ESA blueprint for a special industry". The assessment should include the use of appropriate framework and discuss on how the framework can be used for developing the blueprint of the ESA. Every group should prepare a case study on one of the below business types:
1. Health Organisations
2. Academic Institutions
3. Public Relations
4. Distribution
5. Professional Services
Student groups are required to check with their lecturer/tutor to get the topic approved to make sure there is no direct overlap between groups. Once the topic has been approved students should begin the preliminary work for the assessment. The assessment has two deliverables:
To design a suitable ESA structure for the chosen organisation, the groups are required to present the following in the report:
1. Identify the core business and support functions: front office and back office processes, core information entities, transactions and information flows, material and financial systems
2. Support systems, internal and external integration
3. Provide a summary of what architecture framework used for organising the information - Students should choose either Zachman or TOGAF and provide a justification on why they believe the framework is suitable for the organisation
4. Provide a discussion on what will be the most suitable enterprise system for your selected organisation and why? The justification should be provided in relation to the business processes and not a generic discussion.
5. Reference source must be cited in the text of the report and reference list should be provided at the end of the report using Harvard Anglia referencing style.
Each group will provide the following for the group activity log:
1. Document group member discussion, division of responsibilities and individual efforts used as evidence of individual contributions.
2. The minutes of the group meetings should be documented and attached as appendix to this report, clearly indicating who was present, issues, actions and agreed timeline
3. The log should indicate that a fair distribution of work among the group members was achieved. Periodic information such as emails or diary entries must be inserted wherever applicable
Briefly described below are the teaching methods/strategies used in this subject:
o Lectures (2 hours/week) are conducted in seminar style and address the subject content, provide motivation and context and draw on the students' experience and preparatory reading.
o Tutorials (2 hours/week) include class discussion of case studies and research papers, practice sets and problem-solving and syndicate work on group projects. Tutorials often include group exercises and so contribute to the development of teamwork skills and cultural understanding. Tutorial participation is an essential component of the subject and contributes to the development of many of the graduate attributes (see section 2.2 above). Tutorial participation contributes towards the assessment in many subjects (see details in Section 3.1 for this subject). Supplementary tutorial material such as case studies, recommended readings, review questions etc. will be made available each week in Moodle.
o Online teaching resources include class materials, readings, model answers to assignments and exercises and discussion boards. All online materials for this subject as provided by KOI will be found in the Moodle page for this subject. Students should access Moodle regularly as material may be updated at any time during the trimester
o Other contact - academic staff may also contact students either via Moodle messaging, or via email to the email address provided to KOI on enrolment.
*Note: Need Assessment 4 Only.
