Sometimes you will need to take the day off and a co-worker will cover for you. Read the following scenario below and then complete the activities. 

You were out sick yesterday and one of your co-workers covered for you. You come in the next day to find that your co-worker forgot to log off the EHR system at the end of the day. He also left the patients' registration forms face up on your desk. There were three new patients yesterday that he entered into the system. Since you are responsible for managing the EHR system for accuracy and quality, you will need to log in to the EHR system and verify that the patients' information was entered correctly. 

Download the completed patient registration forms in Blackboard. Then use these provided documents to check the three patients' entries in the EHR system and identify the incorrect or missing fields in the EHR system. Remember to check the format of the entry as well. You will access the EHR system by clicking on the provided link in Blackboard. When selecting the errors made in each patient's entry, you will be prompted to take a screen shot of your selections before submitting. You will submit three screen shots (one for each patient) in Blackboard. 

• Explain the importance of accuracy when entering patient information into the EHR system. Use examples from the activity above to support your answer. 
• Describe any issues, privacy, security, or HIPAA violations that you feel violated the protection of patient information while you were out, and then give some recommendations so that these violations don't happen in the future.
• Analyze the legal consequences and risks that are associated with the acquisition, retention, and distribution of any patient information.  
• Explain how security, privacy, and HIPAA will impact your career.
