Body paragraph usually contains sentences that develop or explain the idea given in the topic sentence. It contains three to five sentences per paragraph. A strong paragraph should be supported by relevant details, including any specific examples or quotations that strengthen the argument. All supporting details relate back to both the topic sentence and the thesis statement. Other ways to develop a body paragraph is by using story or incident to illustrate the idea the writer is talking about. Some of the ways writers implement plans to develop their body paragraph is by using statics and descriptive details about the topic. For a writer to successfully write a body paragraph, it is important that the paragraph is written in a unified and coherent manner. Effective paragraphs have four key features: a topic sentence, unity, coherence, and support. A unified paragraph has to follow the idea mentioned in the topic sentence and must not stray from it. A coherent paragraph has sentences that all reasonably follow each other; they are not lonely thoughts. A paragraph is effectively developed when it defines, clarifies and supports the topic sentence.
