Case Study: Lead Us to Water (LUW) is a construction and water consultation company based in Lodi, CA. The company was formed to provide water location and assessment services to agricultural, municipal, county, and residential organizations.Armando manages the day-to-day operations of LUW. He was reviewing job applications when he saw a familiar name. The job applicant was Salmun, the son of Herman, one ofArmando's college fraternity brothers. Armando and Herman had recently met for lunch and during that lunch, Herman complained about his son drinking too much while in college. Recalling that conversation, Armando decided to investigate Salmun. Armando was shocked. Armando saw pictures of Salmun on Facebook attending a minimum of four college parties during which Salmun appeared very intoxicated and was sitting on a television in one picture. In another, Salmun created a picture of parody of AA, Alcoholics Anonymous. Under the words "AA, Alcoholics Anonymous,Salmun wrote BB for Be Busted." Salmun and another person recorded a TikTok video that featured Salmun stealing beer from a nearby convenience store. Finally, Salmun took a video of himself smoking a joint (marijuana). The captions for the pictures read "I did this and loved it..." Armando quickly put Salmun's application in the "reject" pile. Then, he selected the pictures of all of the 21 to 45-year- old applicants and searched for their Facebook, Instagram and TikTok profiles. When Armando ?nished, he'd eliminated all 21-45 year olds, except a few. Good work, he thought. He didn't want alcoholics, drug addicts, religious fanatics, people who spoke Spanish or loose women working for the company. Digging wells, negotiating contracts and exploring the science of water to make recommendations to farmers, municipalities and other entities on ways to use water more ef?ciently required clear heads and respectful conduct.
