Assignment:

1) Briefly explain the discourse approach to populism (rely on readings and lecture)

2) After watching Trump's inaugural speech first, students must employ a textual analysis: what are the key themes and striking phrases in his rhetoric that can be constituted as populist - whether his words qualify as cultural, socio-economic or anti-establishment populism, or all above?

3) How does this rhetoric differ from the inaugural speeches by the other two U.S. presidents: Obama and Biden? Do they also employ populist messages in their speeches? Or are they overall non-populist speeches? Explain.

Student can either type their short essays directly in to the text box or upload their papers as either word docs or Pdfs. Student papers must have a bibliography or references page (not included in the page count).
