Danaasi is a Malaysian Ice-cream factory with more than 10,000 employees in 12 countries worldwide. The Danaasi subsidiary in Ghana employs mostly third country nationals. Although ice cream manufacturing is a relatively safe job, there are still numerous ways that employees consistently get hurt on the job. For example, there are accident reports of injuries sustained by falling off ladders while changing displays, incorrectly using boxcutters to open packages, or not following correct procedures while cleaning the processing machines.
Danaasi Ghana is however not investing in employee health and safety. The Malaysian headquarters has asked the Ghana subsidiary to come up with a health and safety policy that will appeal to its diverse multigenerational workforce, provide a way to ensure employee conformity and link their conformity back to business performance.
