Laws and Rules
Read the following excerpt Adapted from Gregory D. Foster's "Ethics: Time to Revisit the Basics."
"People are often told to obey rules. In reality, these rules are not permanent: what is right at a given point in time may be declared wrong at another time and vice-versa. The world changes so rapidly that rules are out-of-date almost as soon as they are created. People cannot rely on established guidelines to determine what they should and should not do."
In a two- to three-page paper, address the issue above, address the following:
Determine whether the rules that guide people in their day-to-day lives are too broad for real-life situations. Explain why or why not.
Explain the difference between a rule and a law.
Describe an ethical issues associated with a law and a rule to those who support or follow them.
Support your position with examples taken from your reading, studies, experience, and/or observations. In addition, you must also use at least two academic resources other than the required text. Resources can be found in the Ashford University Library. All sources must be properly cited.
The paper must be two to three pages in length (exclusive of title and reference pages) and formatted according to APA style. You must use at least two scholarly resources in addition to the textbook to support your claims and subclaims. Cite your resources in text and on the reference page. For information regarding APA samples and tutorials, visit the Ashford Writing Center, within the Learning Resources tab on the left navigation toolbar, in your online course.
