They go on to suggest several possible reasons for this shift, although historians clearly disagree as to which reason was most likely. What, to you, seems more likely in this case and why?

1. A decision was made, an order was given, and the voyages ceased, or

2. An overlapping set of factors (financial, cultural, political) worked together to make a continuation of these voyages unlikely.
