Google attracts and keeps talented employees due to its competitive salaries, bonuses, stock options, and superannuation. For example, the annual bonus program pays the employees a healthy bonus based on an individual's performance, which is measured by their success in completing previously set and defined goals. In addition, employees can take advantage of various perks such as free healthy and gourmet meals, on-site massages, free fitness classes and gym memberships, generous paid parental leave, and on-site childcare. The company also puts in effort to make sure its employees have meaningful and inspiring work. For example, Google employees can spend 20% of their time (i.e. one day a week) working on other projects that interest them, outside of their day-to-day responsibilities. This initiative allows them the flexibility to work on passion projects and tap into their creativity. According to a recent employee survey conducted by PayScale, Google employees gave their company high ratings in a number of areas, including compensation, job satisfaction, and job meaning.

Required:

(a) Assess and explain the current level of motivation of Google employees using the Herzberg's two-factor theory and relevant case facts.

(b) Using the Reinforcement theory, explain how the annual bonus program that is currently in place at Google attempts to enhance the motivation level of the employees. Ensure you identify the type of reinforcement being applied and the schedule used to apply it.
