Rory is a Native American older adult who is in hospice and is near death. Rory's family and tribal elders request a smudging ceremony, in which herbal smoke is used for cleansing. The hospice center's policies don't allow for the burning of herbs inside because it is a safety issue. You, as the social worker, want to honor the patient's spiritual beliefs, but you can't deviate from the hospice center's policies. What do you do? What do you say to the family and elders?
