Case Study:
Measuring the HR function's contribution to achieving overall organisational goals is more than designing and implementing a set of evaluative tools to the performance of this function. It is imperative to know the current context that is surrounding when assessing organisational performance. In short, there is a link between CPM / HRM and a) corporate sustainability; b) CSR; c) global warming. Relating CPM / HRM to "these three issues" (a-c) is vital. You need to be able to show how these three issues can ‘put a firm a step ahead'? and how CPM / HRM can assist in implementing corporate sustainability, CSR, and related programmes that address global warming? Use these cases study below to show how you -as an HR practitioner- would seek to extend the traditional role of Contemporary People Management and HRM.
Assessment
1: Case study presentation (10%) and report (15%) Overview This case study is designed allow students to achieve these unit learning outcomes.
-Describe and explain the key functions and practices associated with contemporary people management, HRM, and industrial relations; additionally, advocate improvements to practice of contemporary people management.
-Explain the contribution of strategic HRM to contemporary people management and organisational success.
-Analyse why effective people management HRM remains a challenging task for managers.
-Develop analytical and communication skills appropriate for participating in contemporary people management, HRM, and employment relations in organisations and in multicultural societies. Details Assessment one has two components:
1. An oral presentation of contemporary people management and HRM case studies with group work and exercises.
2. An individually written report.
Note: During the first session, students will organise small working groups of 2 - 4 participants to accomplish this part of the assignment. Report Your written report should answer the question using a clear report-style structure (synopsis, introduction, part a: research and part b: discussion, conclusion, and four [4] recommendations).
