Arguably, American politics has been polarizing since the dawn of the twenty-first century. Starting from the 2000 election controversy, the gap between the two parties has been widening. President Obama's eight years witnessed a lack of cooperation from the Republican Party whereas President Trump's four years produced extreme resistance from the Democratic Party. The 2020 election controversy made President Trump becoming the only President in the US history to have been impeached twice. We can also see the rise to national prominence of political figure such as Bernie Sanderson the one hand and, say, Steve Bannon on the other. It shows the divergent paths political parties have taken. The most consequential outcome of this lack of bipartisanship is lack of action in the most outstanding issues in the policymaking such as immigration, health, education, national debt, among several others.

Identify any one social policy and explain the consequences of political polarization. Why does Congress fail to act? Who should be blamed for inaction? Why? Give a list of agenda where both parties could possibly agree to act.
