Step 1: Learning occurs around us everyday. Pay attention to the people and environments around everyone and will find plenty of examples...the next time he or she see learning in action, take a moment to document it! Observe the people in ones home, community, and when out running errands, in the movies and shows one might watch...anywhere one gets a chance to people watch!
Find an example for each of the following learning processes: a) classical conditioning, operant conditioning (each type - Positive Reinforcement, Positive Punishment, Negative Reinforcement, Negative Punishment), and b) social learning theory.
Step 2: These can be a photo, video, drawing, diagram, or any visual representation format of the learning example one has witnessed. The representation may be of he/she or others (human or animal)
1.) Be sure to submit a copy of all six your learning examples.
2.) Briefly explain the components of each learning process examples demonstrate.
Part 3:
Watch this clip of Albert Bandura's famous Bobo Doll Experiment in which he demonstrated that children imitate aggressive behaviors after watching a video of an adult doing so. What is one (1) possible implication of viewing violence when it comes to social learning?
Part 4:
There are many forms of assessments designed to measure various aspects of personality. Below is an example item from the Thematic Apperception Test. Show someone you know the image and ask them to tell a story related to the picture - what do they think is happening in the image? The more details the better.
Using the story they created, does one believe some of their personality traits were projected into the story? Is their story aligned with their personality as you know them? What do researchers know about the stability of personality? Is it possible that their projections could change over time?
Now, ask them to imagine that they are a person with a high need for achievement and have them tell a story related to the picture. Next, have them imagine that they are a person with a high need for power, and then a high need for intimacy. What details from their stories reveals these needs? How may culture and gender influence their projections?
