Most likely all of you have worked with a patient, client, or know someone with an alteration in either the pancreas, parathyroid, thyroid, or adrenal gland. For example, diabetes is now in epidemic proportions throughout the United States. Our discussion this week revolves around applying what you learned about the pathology, clinical manifestations, and how to manage the altered endocrine function including promoting a lifestyle with healthy choices. Reflect on this patient, family member, or friend to address the questions below. No identifying factors please. If you do not have a person in mind, select an alteration to discuss. Discuss the pathophysiology causing the hypersecretion or hyposecretion of the alteration. Explain the clinical manifestations of the person who was diagnosed with an endocrine alteration.
