Question: The cage is the heart of any casino operation. Ultimately all cash flows through the casino cage. It is critical to have strong cash/chip handling skills, accountability, and documentation of all transactions processed with the casino cage. In addition, the cage is a source of guest service as even non-gamblers will often seek financial services unrelated to gaming. Maintaining sufficient cash on hand to comply with minimum bankroll requirements is a critical operational function provided by the cage.
Similar to consumer credit, documentation and authorization are required to establish a casino credit line. If payment is made timely, the licensee never has to establish collection procedures. As is often the case, the timely payment does not occur and the licensee must impose steps to collect funds. As debt is determined to be uncollectible, the licensee may post a bad debt reserve or ultimately, write off the balance.
This module will walk through cage operations and the cash flow required, issuance and extension of casino credit and the collection process.
