1. Select a person you have known for six months or more. You will be asking them a series of statements. For each statement you will be recording your thoughts before the question (cognition), the person's thoughts when you asked them the question (their cognition), and the person's response (behavior). Prior to the exercise explain to the person the basics of the exercise (you can use Exercise 1.1 in your textbook(Hayes) to help them). You must use the statements in order they appear below.
a. Statement #1 - "I want to understand you better."
b. Statement #2 - "What do I do that irritates you?"
c. Statement #3 - "What can I do to help you?
d. Statement #4 - "What traits about me do you most like?"
2. Once have recorded your results, complete the following in the Forum area for week one:
a. Summarize your interaction (what was difficult, how do you know the person, how did each statement interaction go?).
b. How do you think the order of the questions affected the outcome (if at all)? Explain.
c. How does this look at role-play help you develop as a manager and leader?
Additional questions to answer, in the week one Forum:
Think about the COVID-19 pandemic. Despite social distancing and some of the stay-at-home protocols, how we communicate with others has shifted. How has your communication with family, friends, school, and work changed? What positive changes did you observe, and is it worth continuing some of those practices today? What negative effects did you observe because of our shifting communication styles? What are some possible solutions that exist to address those difficulties?
