Course Description

The course introduces the students to the basic concepts in entrepreneurship, identification of business opportunities, business evaluation and analysis. It provides students with the skills needed to effectively identify, organize, develop, and manage own business ventures.

Course Objectives

The course aims to provide students with:

(i) Knowledge about the origins of entrepreneurship and an entrepreneur;

(ii) Knowledge about entrepreneurship development;

(iii) Insight on how to Identify, evaluate, and select business opportunities;

(iv) Skills to Perform a self-evaluation to match their own characteristics with those of an entrepreneur;

(v) Knowledge on how to carry out feasibility and viability of an investment opportunity;

(vi) Insight to exploit the Entrepreneurial Environment provided by the political, socioeconomic and technological conditions.

Learning Outcomes

On completion of this course unit, the students will be able to:

(i) Explain the origins of entrepreneurship and describe an entrepreneur;

(ii) Outline and explain the stages of Entrepreneurship Development;

(iii) Explain the barriers to Entrepreneurship;

(iv) Perform self evaluation to match business opportunities;

(v) Analyze the entrepreneurial environment;

(vi) Ensure start-up, survival and sustainability of an investment opportunity;

(vii) Identify their own personal entrepreneurial potential, and competences;

(vii) Identify, and exploit business opportunities and resources.
