Location, location, location! Where a firm intends to build its facilities is of strategic importance. Before the location decision can be made, many factors must be taken into consideration. In this homework, you will explore the seven major factors that affect location decisions.

Review the module resources associated with location strategies. Identify a company that currently has no international locations. Assume that the company wishes to expand into a foreign market and you are the chairperson on the location selection committee. It is your job to recommend the best region or country in which to locate.

Module Resource:

The small country of Luxembourg decided a few years ago that they wanted to become the leader in space mining. Now, space mining is many years away from being practical, but Luxembourg wanted to get started, and the country is offering incentives to companies to locate in Luxembourg. On the surface this may sound crazy; there is no way that firms relocating to Luxembourg will make any money in the short (and most likely mid) term. So what is in it for everyone? Well, the firm receives startup funding to initiate ‘space' research, and Luxembourg gains the influx of highly educated people working on space research. There will be many innovations that this partnership will have that will create spin-off firms for products that can be used today, which in turn will increase the source of taxes for Luxembourg and revenue for the firms.

Task

In this module, we will cover the factors and processes that need to be considered when deciding where to locate a facility, whether it is a warehouse, production faculty, or your main office. We'll also talk about once you've decided where to locate, how to design and staff a facility. Write a 500 to 750 words (two to three page) paper using current Writing Style Guide formatting. Include the following:

Question A. Provide a brief overview of your selected company (~1 paragraph).

Question B. Explain the advantages and disadvantages of each of the seven major factors that affect location decisions and how they will affect your chosen firm.
