Introduction paragraph.
Space and Equipment
• Briefly list all the equipment, furniture, and vehicles you will need to run the business. List what you own and what you need in separate columns. Justify why you need them.
• For retail or consumer business, sketch a layout of the store design including service areas and traffic flow.
• For a wholesale or manufacturing business, sketch a layout of the work and storage areas including equipment and workflow.
Logistics
• Explain your systems for procuring and replenishing any supplies or consumables the business will use.
• Identify any subcontractors or suppliers that are part of your business's supply chain (not support functions). Explain the services or products they provide and the contract details required. Include professional services like accountants, lawyers, etc.
Methods and Procedures
• Briefly explain or chart the process used to a typical client or customer transaction.
• Explain the methods or systems you plan to use for quality control, handling customer complaints, etc.
Systems
• Explain the manual or electronic systems you will use to run your core business processes (scheduling, inventory, billing, client records, accounting, etc.)
• Describe their level of integration and how they will be maintained.
Organization
• Outline who is responsible for doing what to run the business.
• Identify who owns, manages, and supervises different activities. If you have partners, include a partnership agreement. If you have employees, include an organization chart and basic job descriptions.
• Describe how your compensation system will work. Identify who earns dividends, profits, or wages and how they are distributed through annual return cheques or payroll. Include any special arrangements like employee profit sharing.
Regulation
• Identify any registrations, licenses, or permits you will be required to have for your business to operate.
• Identify any professional groups or business associations you will belong to and explain the reason for your membership (note any fees).
