The correlation is misleadingly small Example: For married couples with one or more offspring, a demographic study was conducted to determine the effect of the families annual income (at marriage) on time (months) between marriage and the birth of the first child. Clearly a straight line model does not accurately describe what is going on with this data. Does this mean there is no relationship between income and time?
