Barium Sulfate can be made by mixing solutions containing the barium and sulfate ions. The net ionic equation for this reaction is Ba2+(aq) + SO4 2-(aq) ----> BaSO4(s). Patient requiring a stomach X-ray are often to asked to consume a large container of a barium sulphate suspension ( a mixture of solid barium sulphate and water) prior to the procedure.
