Assignment:
Language Development course:
Social Interactionist Theory
Briefly explain your main critiques of the theory, using a thesis sentence to explain what research has refuted this theory. This means you will find evidence that GOES AGAINST the theory or displays limitations of the social interactionist theory.
You should:
- Explain how evidence you have found supports or does not support their theory
- Add clarifying information
- and/or Critique the evidence they have presented if it does not adequately/fully support the criticism of their theory
Thesis Statement at the beginning (you can take this in many different directions; these are just two examples):
Example Thesis: Although some support for statistical learning has been found, this theory has been attacked due to evidence that language learning improves with reinforcement, social interaction, and in some cases on the basis of specific genetic disorders. If language learning can improve through these other methods, it cannot be purely developed based on statistical properties.
OR
Although some support for the generative has been found, this theory has been attacked due to evidence of nurture-based learning in infants, animals, and adults.
Paragraph 1: Explain 1 piece of evidence against your theory (e.g., infants or reinforcement)
Paragraph 2: Explain 1 piece of evidence against your theory (e.g., adults or social interaction)
Paragraph 3: Explain 1 piece of evidence against your theory (e.g., animals or genetic disorders)
Paragraph 4-5: Summarize the evidence and why it can be considered a limitation or critique of your theory. End by telling us whether the theory is substantiated with evidence (supported), not substantiated, or whether it is substantiated, but needs to be revised.
