Cicero, a Roman citizen and statesman, lived and wrote about the Roman Republic until his death in 43 BCE. He noted that the service of the public is honorable, although not easy (Shafritz & Hyde 2017/44 BCE). The same holds true today. The challenges of the 21st century loom large, but there is much to be learned from those scholars of public policy and public administration who came before us. As you explore this week's Learning Resources, consider the many roles that are filled by this profession. Not only is the approach to public administration multidimensional, but the practice is as well. The multidimensional nature of public policy and administration requires you to take into consideration important issues like diversity, inclusion, cultural humility, and implicit bias. It is imperative that public administrators consider all voices.
