Assessment - "Roadshow" leadership speech
Your Task
Assume the role of a senior manager to analyse an organisational scenario or managerial problem (case study), choose a suitable strategy to resolve the issue, and then prepare and deliver a leadership-style presentation to the staff.
Assessment Description
This is the final assessment task for this subject, which brings together all the People, Culture and Contemporary Leadership concepts studied in Weeks 1-11. Specifically, students will assume the role of a senior leader in a [fictitious] company and analyse a given organisational or managerial scenario (case study). Students will draw upon the relevant concepts, models or theories to devise an operational strategy to address the issues presented in the case. From this senior leadership position, students will then prepare and deliver a "Roadshow" style presentation (recorded) that outlines their strategy to the staff in the company. This assessment addresses the following learning outcomes:
LO1: Explore the advantages and disadvantages of various contemporary leadership styles.
LO2: Analyse the traits and behaviours of contemporary leaders.
LO3: Explain the key functions of leaders and managers in a contemporary organisation.
LO4: Evaluate the influence of leadership on organisational culture.
Students should first read and familiarise themselves with the case study provided, and then they should assume the role of one (1) leader who is depicted in the case. This is the role the student must portray in the final video presentation explaining the following:
The overall structure of the organisation.
Identify the various leaders depicted in the case and summarise each leader's roles.
Explain the role you are taking on identifying accountabilities and responsibilities and at least two (2) of their likely "drivers" or KPIs regarding how success in their position/s is expected to be measured.
From the perspective of the leader, the role assumed, and analysis of the case identify:
The main issue in the case and any sub-issues
Suggest at least two (2) "strategies" to overcome the problems depicted in the case.
Relevant concepts, models or theories, models that explain why this is an issue, and references are required to support your assumptions in a and b above.
Guidelines for recorded presentation:
Assume the role of the selected leader, then prepare and deliver - in recorded video format - a 5- minute (no more than 7-minute) presentation. The presentation is to be a professional "Roadshow" style presentation, delivered to your direct and indirect staff, which aims to secure their buy-in.
You are establishing and reinforcing your leadership role and style in the company.
A summary of the issues identified in terms of the company's overall strategy, goals, values, and performance.
Specific practicable details of the strategies identified that you will lead over the next 12 months to remedy the issue, effect the necessary improvements for the organisation, and elaborate on the vital part your employees will play in this.
A slide deck should be incorporated into the presentation, providing evidence of analysis and research.
Students must appear on camera, and the slide deck should be included on the screen as part of the presentation.
The recorded video presentation should be uploaded to Kaltura by the due date and time.
