Power factor improvement
An industrial user has a number of machine tools which are driven by three phase induction motors. during a particular shift, the power factor of the combined load can vary between 0.65(100 KVA load) and 0.81 (20 KVA) load. the user is contemplating using a capacitor bank to maintain the power factor at the point the 11KV supply enters the factory at 0.94. Calculate the KVAr rating range of the capacitors required to achieve this.
Could you also please discuss the economic considerations that must be taken into account before the user makes a firm decision as to whether he is going to implement a power factor correction system.
Compare the frequency response magnitudes for each of the responses above (will need to plot on a logarithmic scale). Comment on the observations noting things such as if the signals are resolvable, the size of the side lobes, etc.
What are the distinguishing features of the response in the pass-band? What are the distinguishing features of the response in the stop-band? What is an all pass filter?
Vary as square root-application, The frequency f of vibration of a wire varies directly as the square root of the tension T of the wire
A 415V to 11 kV transformer has a rating of 200 kVA. The winding resistance and leakage reactance when referred to the primary are 0.014 and 0.057 ohms respectively.
Supply the quantisation levels (including zero) that are available. Do this for both the three and 4-bit ADC in table form. What is the resolution of each quantizer?
Derive the dynamic model and average value circuit of a buck converter assuming the ESRs of the inductor and capacitor are not equal to zero.
Calculate the %age second harmonic distortion present in the amplifier's output for a sinusoidal input of 10 mV r.m.s.
Give three advantages of a three-phase system over a single-phase system There are two basic three-phase connections, the wye connection and the delta connection. Draw a labelled diagram showing the wye connection
Analysing an RF splitter and power levels, A splitter is a device that has a single input and several outputs. It is used to send a signal to several different locations
The river estuary is tidal causing the surface level of the water to rise and fall. At certain times of day, reflections from the water surface cause deep fading of the received signal.
Write down the expression for the frequency-dependent open-loop gain of an operational amplifier. Sketch the magnitude of the open-loop gain of an operational amplifier as a function of frequency. Explain what is meant by a `single-lag' response o..
TDMA has 416 frequencies in one of the cellular license bands. If a cellular operator designs a network with a 5/15 reuse pattern, how many frequencies per cell (sector) can be supported? ( ignore control channels)
