Read the excerpt from the book Mississippi Solo by Eddy L. Harris, and reflect on how the author expresses this unique spiritual moment as he rowed his canoe down the Mississippi River, and consider what makes his experience of nature so for him then answer the following questions.

A. Explain your personal reaction to Mr. Harris' account of his journey in a canoe down the Mississippi River-how does the tone of his words, and his description of the rain and the river, impact your senses? Can you feel what he feels?

B. Harris states that it is almost as if the river is talking to him, that the river is like another person to him. In fact, it seems as if he has a very close personal relationship with the river. Is his perspective on nature different than Emerson express in his essay?

C. Would you ever consider taking a journey like Harris did? If so, why? If not, why not?
