For the last several months, the patient, a 49-year-old male, has had recurrent spells of confusion in the early morning. Recently, this symptom had worsened and he had a seizure. He indicated he felt better after eating or drinking something, particularly orange juice. He denies any drug abuse or taking any medications. Lab results are shown below:

Glucose (random): 46 mg/dL

Glucose (fasting): 32 mg/dL

1. Would the glucose result explain this patient's symptoms? Explain your reasoning

2. List at least three possible causes of the glucose result? (1.5)

Subsequent lab tests revealed the following:

Ketones: neg Proinsulin: 133.2 pmol/L (reference range 6.4 - 9.4 pmol/L) C-peptide: 10.0 ng/mL (0.78 - 1.89) Insulin: 65.1 μU/ml (6.19 - 27.93)
