The purine base guanine can be oxidized to 8-oxoguanine. Guanine base pairs with cytosine, whereas 8-oxoguanine can base pair with either cytosine or adenine. Therefore, after oxidation and replication, the original G:C base pair can become a T:A base pair. Draw the base pairing between 8-oxoguanine and cytosine and 8-oxoguanine and adenine. Use single bonds to represent hydrogen bonds.
