Object Modelling Assignment - Case Study
Case Study - National University is a leading institution in Melbourne, Australia which offers diploma, undergraduate and postgraduate degree programs in Information Technology, Information Systems, Accounting, Business, Law, Arts and Humanities. The University offers three semesters in a year, term-1 starts from February, term-2 from July and term-3 from November. To facilitate students and the University administration department, the University is looking forward to build an Enrollment System which can assist them in managing enrollment throughout the academic year.
It is anticipated that enrolment can be done automatically by students through the following steps.
In step-1, the system gather details about students credential (i.e. name, address, mobile number, personal email address, and student id (mentioned on the COE letter)). Once Authentication is done system will move to Step 2-
In step-2, the system will ask the user to select the major (i.e. Information Technology, Information Systems, Accounting, Business, Law, Arts and Humanities) and the term (e.g. 20XX30, 20xx60 and 20xx90) for which they want enrollment to be done. Once the selections are made, the system will verify whether the student has made the correct selections or not as per the subject availability list and area of Specialization.
In step-3, the system will display the list of available courses in the respective term, from which a student can select between 3-4 courses and their corresponding class times. Typically, a lecture class can have 40 students. Once the class limit is reached, the system will not accept any further enrollment request in that class and will display the next possible class time.
In step-4, the system will ask the student to review the details, entered during steps 1 to 3, before proceeding to fees stage. In case of any incorrect details, the system allows the student to make necessary changes.
In step-5, possible payment options will be displayed, where the options are: master card, debit card or designated account number. In case if options 1 and 2 are selected, the system will ask information about cardholder name, card number, card type, expiry number and three digit code. Once these details are provided, the system will verify them and generate a receipt.
In step-6, at last the system will display necessary information about the commencement dates of academic terms, orientation week, library and department location based on the enrolment.
The administrative department of National University can also use the enrollment system to gather data about student enrollment in each term. From these details, the officials can identify the areas in which students are showing the maximum and minimum amount of interest, timings and locations of classrooms, and the faculty required to teach the subjects in each term.
Task - In the final phase of the project, you need to Design the Story board and it is expected to identify and explain one of the Drill Down report of your project.
Rationale - This assessment task will assess the following learning outcome/s:
- be able to describe the relationship of analysis and design activities to the System Development Life Cycle (SDLC).
- be able to analyse a case study and construct a business proposal to argue the feasibility of a client software proposal.
- be able to model various aspects of systems to construct quality diagrams for use in a system development project.
- to be able to verify and validate a system design.
