To build up a new business function, you need to hire five employees, who will all report up to you. Assume you have no HR support-- you are developing and running this hiring process on your own. You are considering the various selection methods and performance management options. You decide on two selection methods - interviews and cognitive testing (e.g., IQ testing).

a. What are two characteristics of the interview process that you think are most critical to effectively selecting high-performing employees.

b. Identify and explain one cost and one benefit of cognitive ability (e.g. IQ) testing for selection processes.

c. Should you use multiple selection tests (such as cognitive ability, personality, honesty, and skills tests) when selecting these employees? Explain why or why not

d. Provide two reasons and explain why a founder or business owner should generally care about how applicants are selected. Why should founders/business owners invest time into the selection process?
