Presume that you are starting a research project to study a mammalian metalloenzyme that is 350 amino acids long. Describe what techniques you might use to obtain your protein for study. What are the benefits/difficulties associated with the techniques you propose? How might your strategy for obtaining protein change if (1) you wanted to mutate particular amino acids in the protein or (2) you wanted to run some studies on just the metal binding region of the protein that was only 30 amino acids in length?
