Methyl red is an indicator that changes between yellow and red. In solution methyl red (HMR) dissociates as follows:

HMR <----- H+ (aq) + MR- (aq)
red ------> yellow

1) If acid is added to the solution which way do you expect the equilibrium to shift?
2) What color would the indicator be?
3) Explain.

4) If base is added to the solution which way do you expect the equilibrium to shift?
5) What color would the indicator be?
6) Explain.
