Jimmy is the eldest of three children. Up until the age of 7, Jimmy lived in a household characterized by extreme turmoil. His father was an alcoholic who frequently came home drunk and beat his mother. Jimmy witnessed these beatings on several occasions. In fact, it was Jimmy who called the police the night that his father beat his mother so badly that she was hospitalized with a concussion and broken ribs. Jimmy's father was sentenced to prison for assault, and, upon his release, he had no further contact with the family. His mother never remarried and Jimmy and his siblings were raised by their mother, who had to work multiple jobs just to support the family. By the time he was 12, Jimmy stayed away from home as much as possible and was frequently truant from school, hanging out on the street with his friends and experimenting with illicit drugs.

As Jimmy got older, he began to burglarize cars and homes in his neigborhood. He also got into numerous fights: At the slightest insult, he would fly into a rage. Jimmy is now 27. He has an extensive criminal record for burglary and assault. Both of his siblings graduated from high school and now attend Lane Community College.
