Resistance to change is common and some broad reasons: innate dislike of change, low tolerance of uncertainty, and not being in their interests (Palmer, 2017). Some people just do not like change and find uncomfortable and want to stick to their routine. Stakeholders may be displeased when something is changed when they are used to it being one way. Uncertainty is scary especially for stakeholders who put time and/or money into the organization, and change can lead to uncertain outcomes that can scare people into resisting the change. The last broad reason is the stakeholders may view the change to not be in their interests even if it is just their perception. Signs of resistance can occur both actively and passively. Examples of active resistance is arguing, ridiculing, threatening or undermining. Signs of passive resistance is a drop in performance, not implementing change, and procrastination. Different people can show different signs or even a mix of both active and passive resistance. What are your thoughts?
