Answer: One person that comes to mind when I think about volunteerism in our nation is our first lady, Michelle Obama. She dedicates herself in her role as first lady by helping improve not America, not only now, but our future. One huge platform that many of us think about is Michelle Obama's efforts to reduce childhood obesity and to get more children active. Mrs. Obama created the United We Serve program, which helps expand and sustain acts of service and volunteerism in America (Points of Light, 2012). By partnering with the entertainment industry to spread the word, especially with many notable volunteers, such as Bono, First Lady Obama is spreading the importance of volunteerism throughout our nation. Another important part of the volunteerism, I believe, is her many speeches that she has recited across many different platforms, such as college graduations. She spreads the word of not only the importance of volunteerism, but also to be resilient in efforts and love one another. She is a true leader to be admired by many.
