1) Explain in detail what action or words you would do/say. BE SPECIFIC. Write in first person, "I would...." The key here is to write what you would do, not what you think the question is asking for. Every student can have a different answer for this first part of each question.

2) Explain what ethical approach fits your action (The Utilitarian Approach, The Individual Approach, The Moral-rights Approach, The Justice Approach.). Do not just list an approach - you must connect your action with "why" it is that approach.

Example:

Q: You hear your boss tell an off-color joke to you and Sue, your coworker. You can see that she is very uncomfortable.

Your Response:

1) I would say, "Boss, that joke would have been a lot funnier to me if Sue had not been standing here. I don't like to make women feel uncomfortable. Shucks, you even got me turning red." 2) This answer is based on the Moral Rights Approach because every person has the right to feel safe and I don not feel Sue feels safe in that environment.

1. Your accountant advises you to pay your part-time workers in cash to avoid paperwork.

2. At the annual industry convention you notice your general manager making sexual advances to his assistant. The woman looks uncomfortable and leaves the room.

3. An information technology manager at your major competitor offers to do consulting work for you after hours.

4. A report on your desk shows that your major product may cause skin cancer.

5. Your business is facing bankruptcy because of a recession. To obtain financing to cover expenses for the next few weeks, you will have to shade the truth when talking with your banker.
