The story of Archaeplastid evolution is, in many ways, the story of coming onto land. Starting with the Charophyta and ending with the Embryophyta, explain in detail the evolutionary specializations which have allowed many archaeplastids to live successfully on land. Your explanation should include, at minimum, a discussion of the metabolic, morphological, life cycle, and ecological characteristics that make survival and reproduction on land possible.
