Pathogen: Helicobacter pylori 

  1. Explain if and how your pathogen uses glucose
  2. Does your pathogen use oxygen or another inorganic molecule as the final electron acceptor? If not, does it use fermentation to regenerate the NAD+?
  3. Identify specific enzymes your pathogen has for metabolic pathways (examples include catalase, decarboxylase, and dehydrogenase) that are used for identification

  5. Oxygen requirements for your pathogen. Is it a facultative anaerobe, an obligate aerobe, an obligate anaerobe, microaerophile or aerotolerant anaerobe? 
  6. How does your pathogen deal with the toxic effect of oxygen?
  7. Discuss the temperature requirements of your pathogen. Explain which main class of temperature it falls into (hyperthermophile, thermophile, mesophile, psychrotroph, psychrophile) and why.
  8. Name two methods of control of growth for your pathogen. Must include a method used in a patient and one for outside the host.
