Assignment
Famed economist Alfred Marshall said "economics is the study of mankind in the ordinary business of life."
One of the key points I hope you take away from this class is that the study of economics can be found all around you. It is not just money and the stock market; it is the study of how people make decisions, what influences them, and how society can be made better off through these decisions.
As an extra credit assignment, I would like you to discuss how economics applies to a media type of your choosing. You can discuss economics as it relates to a movie, TV show, song, book, video game, news article, etc.
The extra credit assignment will be worth up to 8 points. Here are the criteria:
1) In 1 paragraph, please provide me with a short description/background information about your media choice. For example, I have used some Seinfeld clips in class, so in my first paragraph, I would explain that Seinfeld was a popular show in the 1990s that followed 4 people through their everyday experiences and finds humor in the daily routines of life.
2) For the second part, you will choose two economic concepts and explain how each applies to your particular media choice. This part must be in your own words (no Wikipedia definitions, please) - explain how your clip describes the economic concepts.
You can choose any economic concept for this assignment. You will be graded on the correct use of economic concepts in your example as well as creativity. If you have a web link available to your source, please include that in your submission. Your extra credit assignment must be typed and should not exceed 1 page. Please include all references to media and any other resources that you use to complete the assignment.
