During the summer holidays you work at an established manufacturing organisation that produces batches of white goods such as fridges.

With a reputation for competitive pricing and dependable supply, the organisation recently won a new customer contract. This has increased their volumes significantly and awarded them a large share of the market. It has resulted in additional pressure to meet quality and delivery expectations consistently, while managing costs.

The Production Manager is convinced that to cope with the increased demand, more machines should be purchased and more people should be hired. The Operations Director disagrees and believes there are improvements that could improve capacity available before investing in more.
