Today's business environment is in a constant state of change. These changes impact organizations internally, as well the external business environment.
Underpinning many of these developments, are changes to the accounting and financial reporting policies organizations are subject to.
Project Requirements:
This research project requires you to critically review a current event or a topic related to management or financial accounting and the content of this course. To the extent you choose a business article, it should be published within the last year. You will include yourself in a group of two or three team members in total. For each current event or topic, you are expected to:
Briefly summarize the chosen or assigned current event or topic (1 page).
Explain how you think the current event or topic illustrates the concept(s) that the course covers. This section should make specific reference to the course material (2 pages).
Provide your opinions about what this current event or topic means in relation to management accounting, ethics, and the people in the organization (2 pages).
You are to include a final concluding section in which you tie the articles and event together and draw more general conclusions and observations about management accounting and how it relates to managing business (1 page).
You will prepare a 10-minute presentation covering your findings. This will be presented to the class and instructor. PowerPoint slides are required.
You may use print Canadian sources (e.g. local newspapers, Globe and Mail, weekly magazines (e.g. McLean, Time, Economist, etc.), online Canadian sources (websites for any newspaper, www.cpacanada.ca/ or other accounting websites. You need to include bibliographic references for each reference that you use according to the APA Style Guide.

As part of this research project, you are required to present, individually or in groups, a summary of the chosen or assigned current events or topics to the class on a specific date. The presentation is expected to be approximately 15-20 slides in power-point format. Expect some questions from your peers to answers.
To demonstrate your mastery of the concepts, principles, or theories of the assigned current event or topic, your presentation should include relevant examples. You might also make appropriate arrangements to include audiovisual means to help you deliver your presentation effectively
Timeline:
Week 8: Please have an article or topic selected that you intend to write about. Please present this to the instructor and notify the instructor of your team members.
Week 9: Please have a one-page outline prepared, summarizing the main ideas that you intend to discuss in your paper, and broadly-speaking, how you will go about addressing the Project Requirements.
Your paper will be submitted at the time of your presentation.
Week 11: you will present your findings to the class in a 10-minute presentation.
