Indigenous Studies1000 is a first-year course. The expectation is that students have a basis for researching, formatting, and different styles of writing. In relation to liberal arts, as the course progresses, you will develop your academic writing skills through a relational, review paper (this homework), an expository research paper, visual representation of information and a reflective portfolio.
Purpose: This is not a critique; it is a relational review. The purpose of this homework is to reviewone article from the reading list posted under the Homework #1 tab on Moodle. Allarticles have one or more Indigenous authors who are respected in their field.
Task
Question 1. Discover the author's point of view and background
Question 2. Identify the author's location and how this may influence the writing
Question 3. Assess the purpose of the article and how it contributes to knowledge
Question 4. Examine how Indigenous experience or perspective is constructed (particularly in the published, academic article)
Question 5. Ability to present your review in a concise & succinct way
Question 6. Explain how you related or learned from the research document(s)
Question 7. Compare your own knowing (based on experience and location) with author's
Question 8. Your article review should illustrate your analysis of the author's stance and locationandintegrate your stance and location in relation to the research documents.
Question 9. Your review will have some research and connections to course content, the textbook, readings, and viewing.
